Enhancing Your Active Lifestyle: The Benefits of Adding Bodywork and Massage

Maintaining an active lifestyle is crucial for our overall well-being. Regular physical activity helps us stay fit, reduces the risk of chronic diseases, and enhances our mental and emotional health. To optimize the benefits of an active lifestyle, incorporating bodywork and massage can be a game-changer. Bodywork and massage therapy offer a range of advantages that complement and enhance the positive effects of exercise. In this blog, we will explore the various benefits of adding bodywork and massage to your active lifestyle.

  1. Enhanced Athletic Performance

Whether you’re an avid athlete, a weekend warrior, or simply enjoy regular physical activity, bodywork and massage can contribute to enhanced athletic performance. Regular sessions can help improve flexibility, increase range of motion, and alleviate muscle tension and tightness. Bodywork techniques like myofascial release, deep tissue massage, and sports massage can target specific areas prone to injury or muscle imbalances, aiding in injury prevention and optimizing performance.

  1. Faster Recovery and Reduced Muscle Soreness

Intense physical activity often leads to muscle soreness and fatigue. Bodywork and massage play a crucial role in facilitating faster recovery. Massage helps increase blood circulation, which delivers vital nutrients to the muscles and removes waste products more efficiently. This accelerated recovery process can reduce muscle soreness, stiffness, and inflammation, allowing you to bounce back quicker and maintain a consistent exercise routine.

  1. Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation

Injuries are a common setback for those leading an active lifestyle. Incorporating bodywork and massage can help prevent injuries by improving muscle and joint flexibility, enhancing overall mobility, and identifying potential problem areas. Skilled massage therapists can identify imbalances and address them proactively, minimizing the risk of future injuries. In cases where injuries have occurred, massage therapy can aid in rehabilitation by promoting tissue healing, reducing scar tissue formation, and restoring range of motion.

  1. Stress Reduction and Relaxation

Active lifestyles can sometimes lead to physical and mental stress. Bodywork and massage provide an excellent opportunity for relaxation and stress reduction. Massage stimulates the production of endorphins, which are natural mood elevators and pain relievers. It also helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting a state of deep relaxation and reducing stress hormone levels. By incorporating regular massage sessions, you can effectively manage stress levels and improve your overall well-being.

  1. Improved Posture and Body Awareness

Bodywork and massage not only work on physical aspects but also improve body awareness and posture. Certain techniques, such as myofascial release and structural integration, can help correct postural imbalances caused by sedentary lifestyles or repetitive movements. By addressing muscular imbalances and re-educating the body, massage therapy promotes proper alignment and body awareness, reducing the risk of injuries and enhancing movement efficiency.

  1. Mental and Emotional Well-being

Physical activity positively impacts mental health, and bodywork and massage further contribute to our overall well-being. Massage therapy has been shown to reduce anxiety, alleviate symptoms of depression, and improve sleep quality. The calming and nurturing touch of a massage therapist can induce a sense of relaxation and promote a positive mind-body connection, helping to relieve stress and enhance emotional well-being.

Conclusion

Incorporating bodywork and massage into an active lifestyle can have numerous benefits. From enhanced athletic performance and faster recovery to injury prevention and stress reduction, bodywork and massage offer a holistic approach to supporting your physical and mental well-being. By prioritizing self-care through regular bodywork and massage sessions, you can optimize your active lifestyle, promote longevity, and enjoy the many advantages that come with taking care of your body and mind.

Community Highlights: Meet LisaMarie Arreguin of LA Bodywork

As seen and featured in VoyageLA.

Today we’d like to introduce you to LisaMarie Arreguin.

LisaMarie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My Success & Credibility – I’m a fascial/ sports/medical manual therapist, movement specialist, and overall health coach. I own my private practice, LA Bodywork for 12 years now. But I have been in this career for 16 years.

I have certifications in Massage Therapy, NASM: CES, FMS, Stick Mobility, RFTL1 Coach, and Rock Tape in Kinesiology.

I’ve put my hands on over 25,000 bodies

I’m a retired ballroom dancer & triathlete and I feel that LIVING an ACTIVE LIFESTYLE has really helped me understand the human body & movement

Turning Point: Leaving my ballroom career & Real Estate Career & my husband passing away all in 2008… lead me to massage therapy. I had no idea doing bodywork was going to turn into something so meaningful. You start showing up for people and they start showing up for you.

I do this because I realize my clients became my gift. They healed me. They educated me. They believed in me. I believe you start healing when you heal others. I found compassion and curiosity in my clients, which is why I ended up with several certifications. The best education came from observing, listening and repetitive motion.

It didn’t always look this way: I started at $21 an hour working for The Massage Place for six years, I worked 6 days a week, 12-hour days, 10 hours of massage work.

But I knew I couldn’t do that forever. So I eventually went out on my own and after two years, hired my very first business coach. I rented space in a chiropractor’s office & physical therapy offices and This allowed me to get referrals. I continued to work hard & continued to invest in my clients and my education.

I started off charging $47 an hour and every two years, raised my rates. Today, I am grateful for two locations. I now see why the work was worth it and how it has built credibility. I also have other sources of income such as selling products and educating other practitioners.

I am Grateful For: I value my clients. They have helped me belong in my community by highly referring me. Today, I’m extremely grateful for My family, my friends, and my resources. I’m a trusting person in the industry. And everything I just told you is Why I am so passionate about what I do. And I want to help other Bodyworkers reach their success in their careers and maintain a full practice of clients as well.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I feel all entrepreneurs have our highs and lows but our highs is what makes it all worth it. Alot of times, I felt lost on the financial side of things. I was always willing to reinvest in myself and my business. I understood that it would benefit my clients and everyone else around me.

Initially, I wasn’t sure if I could pay my overhead. The very first room I rented was $500 a month. I had 5-10 clients a week. Clearly not enough. But eventually, I had more clients than I could handle. I had that space for seven years.

I eventually go into a nicer space. A Physical Therapist in the local area had been referring clients to me for years, she expanded and asked if I’d join her in her space. I’ve been there ever since. My overhead got larger of course. You make more money and you want a nicer car, a nicer place to live and no more roommates. Transitions are scary but if you have the desire for more, you eventually figure it out.

Covid was a huge setback for me, as it was for many others. But even after three months off, clients came back and I got even busier. I struggled with how much I was growing and I knew I needed to hire and train others.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Hi, I am LisaMarie Arreguin

I am a healer, an educator, a movement specialist, and an entrepreneur.

I own a company called LA Bodywork Massage and Recovery.

We are not your average massage facility. We want our clients to feel better about the way they move. Whether it’s an active lifestyle or being able to accomplish everyday tasks, such as picking up your children, reaching behind your car seat, picking up furniture, playing with your children, or just simply sitting down

We specialize in manual work, breathe work, fascial work and corrective exercises. Not only are we there for your body maintenance needs, we are here to help educate you, help you understand why your body is prone to injury, lacking mobility, flexibility, or strength.

We combine modalities like manual therapy, fascial, stretching, corrective exercises, and body maintenance tools. All of these modalities give you and the therapist feedback and a sense of awareness of where your body currently is.

We take every client through seven movement patterns that are meant to challenge everyone across the board. This is The Functional Movement Screening Process. Everyone and myself included. Based on these movement patterns, we learn what your body needs, what it’s prepared for, and what it’s not prepared for.

We protect your body from movement patterns that you are not quite ready for, however, we give you what you need to eventually accomplish those movement patterns comfortably. We’re here to make you feel hopeful about adopting the movement’s principles. Every session, the therapist is here to do manual work, healing, work, breath, work and movement work with every individual.

Our goal is to make sure you leave feeling better than you did before you walked in. That we build a relationship with you that keeps you coming back!

I am so proud of building this brand because we are more than just massage therapists! We are Professional Bodyworkers with a deeper understanding of physiology and anatomy.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I have two offices now in LA County. Studio City has been good to me and LA Bodywork. I’ve been in this community for over 15 years. I loved that it catered to small businesses.

I feel the one way to separate yourself from the rest of the community is to be reliable. Show up to work. Be consistent. Many of our clientele base has been with us for over ten years.

I moved to Redondo Beach over a year ago and now I have a whole new set of eyes. And I love the coast! I’ll never move back to Studio City, however I don’t mind the commute. I’ll never leave my clients.

LA has enough business for everyone! I love the diversity of ethnicity and cultures. It keeps me alive to be excited about learning!

Pricing:

  • We offer 60, 75, 90 Minute Bodywork Sessions
  • We offer packages!

Exploring the Mind-Body Connection: How Bodywork Supports Holistic Healing

Introduction:

In our fast-paced and demanding lives, finding balance and inner peace is essential. The mind-body connection plays a crucial role in achieving overall well-being. Bodywork, encompassing a range of therapies such as massage, reflexology, and energy healing, offers a powerful avenue to support holistic healing. In this blog post, we will delve into the fascinating world of the mind-body connection and explore how bodywork practices contribute to a harmonious and balanced state of being.

Understanding the Mind-Body Connection:

The mind and body are intricately connected, with each influencing the other. Emotions, thoughts, and experiences can manifest in physical sensations and vice versa. The mind-body connection emphasizes the interplay between mental, emotional, and physical aspects of our being. Imbalances or disruptions in one area can impact the other, highlighting the importance of holistic approaches to healing and well-being.

Bodywork and Emotional Release:

One of the key benefits of bodywork is its ability to facilitate the release of emotional tension stored in the body. Stress, trauma, and daily pressures can manifest as physical discomfort or pain. Bodywork therapies such as deep tissue massage, myofascial release, or craniosacral therapy target specific areas, helping to release trapped emotions and promote emotional healing.

Stress Reduction and Relaxation:

Stress is a common factor affecting both the mind and body. Bodywork techniques like Swedish massage, aromatherapy, and reflexology induce deep relaxation, triggering the body’s relaxation response. This activates the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress hormones, promoting a sense of calm, and restoring balance to the mind and body.

Energy Healing and Rebalancing:

Energy-based bodywork practices like Reiki, acupuncture, or acupressure focus on restoring the flow of vital energy within the body. These therapies work on the energetic pathways to clear blockages, rebalance the body’s energy centers, and enhance overall well-being. By addressing energetic imbalances, bodywork supports the harmonization of mind, body, and spirit.

Mindfulness and Body Awareness:

Bodywork encourages individuals to cultivate mindfulness and body awareness. During sessions, clients are encouraged to be present in the moment, paying attention to sensations, breath, and the body’s responses. This heightened awareness fosters a deeper connection to the self, helping to uncover and address areas of tension, pain, or emotional distress.

Holistic Wellness and Self-Care:

Bodywork is not just a reactive approach to healing but also a proactive form of self-care. Regular bodywork sessions can help maintain a state of balance, prevent imbalances from occurring, and support ongoing holistic wellness. By prioritizing self-care through bodywork, individuals nurture their mind-body connection, fostering resilience and overall well-being.

Conclusion:

The mind-body connection is a profound and essential aspect of our well-being. Bodywork therapies provide a transformative path toward holistic healing, offering physical relief, emotional release, stress reduction, and increased self-awareness. By embracing the mind-body connection through bodywork, individuals can experience a greater sense of balance, harmony, and well-being in their lives. So take a step towards nurturing your mind, body, and spirit—explore the wonders of bodywork and embark on a journey of holistic healing today.

Finding Balance: The Importance of Self-Care Through Physical Activity, Deep Tissue Bodywork, Meditation, and Spending Time Outdoors

Self-care has become a buzzword in recent years, but what does it actually mean? In short, self-care is any activity that we do to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. And while there are many ways to practice self-care, physical activity, deep tissue bodywork, meditation, and spending time outdoors are all powerful tools in achieving optimal wellness.

Let’s start with physical activity. Engaging in regular exercise has numerous benefits for the body and mind. It boosts endorphins, improves cardiovascular health, and can even help with weight management. Plus, the sense of accomplishment that comes with meeting fitness goals can give us a huge confidence boost and improve our self-esteem.

But physical activity isn’t just about going to the gym or running marathons. It can be as simple as taking a walk around the block, doing some stretching or yoga, or even dancing in your living room. The key is to find activities that you enjoy and that make you feel good.

Another powerful tool for self-care is deep tissue bodywork. This type of massage therapy focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue, targeting areas of tension and pain. Deep tissue bodywork can help reduce stress, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. It’s also a great way to release emotional tension and connect with your body.

Meditation is another valuable practice for self-care. By quieting the mind and focusing on the present moment, we can reduce stress, improve mental clarity, and enhance our overall sense of well-being. Meditation can be done anywhere, at any time – all you need is a quiet space and a few minutes of uninterrupted time.

Finally, spending time outdoors is an excellent way to practice self-care. Nature has a way of rejuvenating the soul, reducing stress, and promoting a sense of calm and peace. Whether you’re hiking in the mountains, walking on the beach, or simply sitting in a park, spending time outdoors can help you feel more connected to the world around you.

Incorporating physical activity, deep tissue bodywork, meditation, and spending time outdoors into your routine can help you achieve optimal health and well-being. These practices are all about taking care of yourself, both inside and out. And the best part? They can all be customized to fit your individual needs and preferences.

So why not make self-care a priority in your life? Take a walk outside, try a new yoga class, book a massage, or start a daily meditation practice. Your mind and body will thank you.
